Double Spiral Staircase

Last year during the fall, the corona restriction where shortly lifted, and we took a little day trip to Graz. For those of you not familiar with Austria, Graz is the second-largest city in Austria, located in the region/state of Styria.

One of the highlights of this trip was the fascinating double spiral staircase built-in 1499-1500 also known as; the staircase of reconciliation. The meaning behind the name comes from the structure of the staircase, even if you go different ways, you will always be reunited.

The staircase almost appeared to be an optical illusion of some sort, as it comprises of two spiralling stairs that go in opposite directions, which on each floor briefly reconnect, then part again.

The architecture in Austria has never ceased to amaze me, and it was an incredible experience, especially after being cooped up at home for most of the year. I plan on visiting Graz again in the future, it is a beautiful city, with so much history and artistic charm. I would highly recommend a visit & let me know if you want me to share some more pictures of our little trip 🙂
