The BitTorrent token (BTT) is a TRC-10 utility token based on the Tron blockchain. It was introduced in early 2019 after Justin Sun, founder of Tron, acquired the BitTorrent Foundation.
The token is supposed to provide utility for the BitTorrent ecosystem, including BitTorrent Speed, BitTorrent File System, DLive, μtorrent and others. BTT can be used to provide tokens to uploaders in the file sharing system for faster downloads, and vice versa, earn tokens for seeding longer.
The total supply of BitTorrent is 990 billion tokens, which of 17% were sold privately and publicly, 20.1% were airdrops. The Tron foundation holds 20% and 19% was allocated to the BitTorrent Foundation and their team.
